Veneers offer one of the best dentistry options for people wanting to improve their smiles. With veneers, you can whiten your teeth beyond what tooth whitening can accomplish. Veneers can also be used to align or straighten crooked teeth or to eliminate spaces between the teeth. Veneers also reflect light and have a luster like enamel. Unlike dental crowns, they are placed only over the front of the teeth. However, unlike bleaching, tooth contouring and reshaping, and dental bonding, veneers are a lifetime commitment.
Veneers are very thin slices of porcelain or composite that are custom made for each tooth.
First, a half millimeter of enamel is removed from the front surface of the tooth. The tooth is then “roughed up” using phosphoric acid. Resin cement and the veneer are then applied to the tooth. The procedure takes at least two visits.
Plastic Veneers usually last 3-6 years. Porcelain veneers last 10-15 years or more.
